Is Leadership With Class just for students and educators?
Absolutely not! The strategies and skills provided in the Leadership
With Class seminar apply to any organization or industry. In fact,
more than half of the seminars presented to date have been to groups outside
of the education sector. What age group is this program
appropriate for? The material in Leadership With Class is
sophisticated. It is recommended for High School (9th grade) and up.
You can be assured that, although participants will be challenged,
they WILL perform at a high level and be proud of the outcomes they
generate. Who should attend Leadership With Class? This
program is designed to provide focused leadership skills training to
groups of individuals who have a desire to become better leaders.
Key to the success of the program is participants' interest in
improving their leadership skills as well as a commitment to the
session. How many participants can be included in one session?
We recommend up to 30 participants. Larger groups are accommodated
with an additional facilitator (provided by our office) as well as
additional staff (from the client group) to help keep participants
on track. Where is the program held? Anywhere! However, we
recommend that the workshop be held at an off-site location. Schools
may want to take their student group off campus, businesses, out of
the office to another location. Some groups have even chosen to
expand the program to an overnight "retreat". The room needs to be
comfortable and large enough for all participants to sit by tables,
as well as some open space for activities. What do I need to do
to prepare for the program? Your greatest challenge may be in
selecting participants. We take if from there. Several groups have
put together Leadership With Class seminars in less than 2 weeks.
Event organizers have been thrilled by the fact that, for a
change, they just need to show up! Participants, on the other hand, need
to do more than show up - they are actively involved and make large
contributions. An optional, but very powerful part of the program
includes writing and presenting of letters affirmation to
participants. Your preparation may include giving others (co-workers, peers,
teachers, staff) the opportunity to write to participants,
and collecting the notes in time to present them at the event.
Why did you choose the exercises you chose? Because they are
FUN! The activities were chosen specifically because they tie
directly in to, and add life to, the learning experience.
Can
this leadership training help my organization deal with a
specific problem or is it simply informational? Glad you asked!
Perhaps the most powerful portion of Leadership With Class is the
application of skill to a real-life problem/situation facing your
organization. Susan guides your group through a rational process of
tackling a very specific problem. This includes brainstorming,
prioritizing, action planning and identifying who does what by when
for accountability. The end result is a high-quality plan of action
that is implemented immediately. Because the group generated the
plan, they automatically have ownership of, (and are invested in!)
it. Now that your leadership team has learned the process, skills
are applied over and over to tackle the tough issues your
organization may face in the future. Can
teachers/administrators/staff attend the program? YES! We prefer
to have 1 adult in the room for every 8 students. Adult observers
continually tells us that, "I wish Susan could come and work with
our staff!" or that "I love how Susan handled that situation, I'm
going to try her approach in my classroom." Observers learn from the
process and from Susan's example. Participants learn by their active
involvement. In short, the program is valuable for everyone in the
room. It has even been suggested that a larger group of teachers
could attend the program to glean Susan's insights, in effect making
this a "conference that comes to you!"
